Laura founded Special Education Services in 1983 to fill the gap in services that she observed for children with special needs in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

As a former preschool teacher and the coordinator of disability services for a D.C.-based Head Start agency, she learned first hand what the community needed and how children with special needs were not being effectively served. Since 1983, her community has grown substantially, and Laura regularly works as a special education consultant with children, families, educators, and specialists across Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.

Laura is an expert in the effective delivery of services for children with special needs. She develops successful, comprehensive, and individualized plans of action with her clients through:

  • Informational meetings with parents, family members, and children
  • Observations in schools, at home, and in the community
  • Diagnostic and educational testing
  • Development, review, and revision of Individual Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans
  • Placement in appropriate school programs, including public, private/independent, nonpublic, and parochial schools
  • Referral to community service providers, such as speech or occupational therapists, mental health providers, and medical professionals
  • Monitoring progress so that children have what they need to succeed
  • Consultation and follow-up with the school teams and specialists that support your child
  • Coaching and ongoing support for parents
